The Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC) welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the Victorian Government’s update of its Climate Change Strategy for 2026–2030. We congratulate the Government on its sustained climate leadership and its nation-leading initiatives to decarbonise the built environment.
Victoria has demonstrated that bold, coordinated action across sectors is not only possible but delivers tangible economic, social and environmental benefits. This second Climate Change Strategy (2026- 2030) presents an opportunity to build on that foundation—by scaling up ambition, accelerating delivery, and embedding whole-of-government collaboration to achieve science-based emissions reduction targets.
Key Recommendations
- Accelerate Building Electrification and Energy Performance
- Strengthen Whole-of-Government Leadership
- Embed Policy Alignment and National Consistency
- Address Embodied Carbon in Buildings and Infrastructure
The Victorian Government has a unique opportunity to accelerate emissions reductions while improving equity, health, and economic outcomes for all Victorians. ASBEC remains committed to collaborating with the Victorian Government in helping to shape this second Climate Change Strategy and look forward to ongoing engagement throughout 2025.
