Renters have a right to live in homes that are safe, healthy, and affordable to run. The Residential Tenancies (Minimum Standards) Amendment Bill 2024 represents a long overdue step toward ensuring that every South Australian renter has access to a home that meets these basic expectations.

Renters have waited long enough for these protections. We urge members of the Legislative Council to listen to the voices of renters, to consider the evidence, and to act in the public interest. Supporting the Residential Tenancies (Minimum Standards) Amendment Bill 2024 is an opportunity to deliver meaningful cost-of-living relief, improve housing conditions across the state, and ensure that all South Australians have access to safe, healthy, and affordable homes.

It’s time to bring South Australia into line with the rest of the country and deliver the secure, affordable, and liveable homes that every renter deserves.
