The Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC) welcomes the opportunity to comment on the proposed changes to education and fees regulation for property-industry professionals in Victoria. We see this consultation as a timely opportunity to better align the skills and professionalism of property practitioners with Victoria’s decarbonisation, building safety, and energy-efficiency goals. We will be limiting our comments to the education requirements and will not be commenting on fees regulations for property industry professionals.
Our key recommendations are:
- Continuing Professional Development (CPD) should be mandatory for property industry professionals.
- The maximum CPD requirement (five activities) is justified and should be adopted.
- Mandatory CPD content should explicitly include sustainability, energy efficiency, and building electrification, to ensure that property professionals are equipped to support Victoria’s energy transition.
