The Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC) welcomes the opportunity to provide feedback on the Government of South Australia’s draft 2025-2030 strategy for circular economy and waste. We commend the South Australian Government on its achievements regarding Supporting the circular economy: South Australia’s waste strategy 2020-2025 and strongly support the government’s leadership in the next tranche of its strategy.

Our feedback focuses on the opportunities within the built environment to embrace circularity. The submission provides comments on 3 key areas of the proposed 2025 strategy:

  1. Objectives, Goals and Targets
  1. Focus Area 6: Build a circular built environment
  1. Focus area 7: Develop circular economy knowledge and skills

Good governance is key to successful delivery of any sustainable construction policy, so we encourage continued engagement across all levels of government, as well as with industry and community. ASBEC is strongly supportive of the approach employed amongst SA Government agencies to deliver the objectives of the 2025-2030 Waste Strategy; working across agencies and collaboratively with industry to deliver a better future for all.
